Things Clients must know before beginning:
  • Making sure patients read and fill out the consent form and only leaving things incomplete if they don’t comprehend the questions. (consent form attached)

  • Go over consent form with client making sure all their questions have been answered.

  • Stress the importance that more than one treatment is needed as hair grows in three stages.

  • Explain that the laser energy heats the melanin in the hair follicle and bulge which disables the hairs in the anagen phase eliminating or impeding their growth.

  • Lighter skin types may need between 3-6 treatments and darker skin types 6-8 treatments depending on their hair growth traits.
  • Face every 4-6 weeks, arms every 8 weeks, bikini & underarms every 6-8 weeks, back and chest every 8-12 weeks and legs every 8-12 weeks.

  • It is essential that their hair is present under the skin so they must not wax, tweeze, thread or have electrolysis for 3-4 weeks before the first session. Hair can be managed by shaving, trimming, bleaching or using Nair.

  • Clients can use topical anesthetic before treatment to help with discomfort. Approx 30 mins before treatment apply a thick layer of topical cream to treated area and saran wrap over top so it can penetrate into the skin and not on clothing. Also advil 20 mins before treatment can help eliminate some of the discomfort.

  • Explain that laser should be used cautiously with cold sores, genital herpes, uncontrolled diabetes, accutane for acne, keloid scarring, tattoos.

  • Explain that most people describe the sensation similar to sunburn after treatment. Sun block/aloe is required on the treated area for 4 weeks after treatment. Redness usually fades within 24 hours.

  • The hairs can take up to 3 weeks to be expelled from the follicle. Assisting the hairs by shaving or using a loofah or face cloth on the area.

  • Lasers are intense sources of light and can reflect off the skin so eye protection must be worn.

Where do I start?

Start by using the above chart. Use the lowest fluence # to begin with. Determine if hair is fine/thick and pick auto, 30ms or 100 ms. once this is set place hand through safety strap and DO NOT DROP head.
Apply a layer of gel to the skin. Place diode head on skin at 90 degree angle and do a test area of pulse 2-4 shots, moving the tip the full 9 mm with each beep from the machine. A 10 % overlap of the pulses is expected.

The chill tip protects the epidermis, pressing the tip into the dermis squeezes the blood out of the area and it decreases the ouch sensation for the client.
Look at the skin: you want to see smudged hair, hair smell, crunching sound.
If NO then increase by the chart and try again. If Yes then continue.
END:  Type I-IV Redness, heat and slight swelling
Type V-VI same but takes longer to see.
Using the Lightsheer Diode

What is it?
800 nm wavelength diode laser with a patented built in 9mm x 9mm chill tip. FDA approved for permanent hair reduction for all skin types from I-VI using a regular 110 volt outlet.
Getting Started:
Plug electrical cord into back of machine and into a regular wall outlet. Take small black hose of air foot peddle and place onto back of lower left outlet. Turn on by switching white toggle power switch on back of machine. Takes about 1.5 minutes for computer to self check.  Turn key to the right when asked by computer. Once ready it will ask to calibrate. You have to do this each time you turn the lightsheer on for the first time each day.
To Calibrate:
  1. Lift hand piece from holster.
  2. Place hand piece back into holster.
  3. Place your foot on lower 2/3 of foot peddles and compress it; leave your foot on it.
  4. Place hand on hand piece and squeeze the trigger by leaving finger on it. This will allow the laser to fire 4 pulses. Remove hand and foot. Calibration is now complete.
  5. Machine will say cooling, once it says standby it is ready to go.

Keeping Tip Clean

The laser can leave hair residue on the skin surface and on the tip surface. It is so important to keep both clean with water soaked gauze. Do not treat over an area of smudged hair-result in blistering. When hair is thick keep checking tip to maintain that it is spotless. Residue left on tip can produce blisters.

Clean the sapphire tip with cleaning solution all the time. Clean gray holster with water and soap. While cleaning holster look at glass plate inside, hair can fall down onto glass calibration plate. Clean with alcohol or Windex.
